The Challenge

Dell had a very large, complex and heavily customized Agile installation. The proliferation of processes, projects and customizations left the business group heavily reliant on IT, and this meant delays and increased costs. The goal was to consolidate and centralize all the customizations and decrease reliance on IT for support.

The Solution

Using AttributeState the ZWS team pulled Dell’s various customizations into plain text rules stored in a spreadsheet and held in Dell’s Agile system. This is done using a higher level language called FreeMarker so the business staff can create, manage and maintain what formerly required customized Java or Groovy code extensions to the Agile system. With training by ZWS, two users in the business group now support the needs of their business users more quickly than the IT group could.

The Benefits

Dell’s trained business users now manage customized processes and can create customizations when required. Decreased dependence on IT means faster turnaround times to meet the PLM needs of business users. Initial project success led, Dell to engage twice more. ZWS DocState enables a complete, two-directional integration between Oracle Enterprise Data Quality (EDQ) and Agile PLM. ZWS RevState is configured to fully automate setting new revision and lifecycle phase when items are added to change orders. The results? Efficiencies are increased and costly errors are minimized.

Fresenius

Fresenius Medical Care North America (FMCNA) is the premier healthcare company focused on providing the highest quality care to people with renal and other chronic conditions. As the world’s largest fully integrated renal company, it offers specialty pharmacy and laboratory services, and manufactures and distributes the most comprehensive line of dialysis equipment, disposable products, and renal pharmaceuticals.

The Challenge

Fresenius Medical was a long-time Agile PLM user, but the company managed all its material compliance data outside the PLM system with a completely manual approach. This manual material compliance process didn’t scale well. It was hindering the company’s rapid growth, forcing it to look into hiring additional headcount solely for the administrative task of tracking the data. Fresenius was reluctant to invest money in another Agile module when Oracle considers Agile PLM to be end of life.

The Solution

ZWS implemented a complete compliance management solution in Agile PLM using the PLM system-agnostic roll-up engine extension to AttributeState providing support for RoHS, REACH, Prop 65 and CMR/CLP. ZWS also integrated Agile's compliance solution and Total Parts Plus (a Parts Data Content Provider) to automatically pull compliance information from manufacturers for their parts into the PLM system and roll up the compliance states throughout AMLs and BOMs by revision, and warn or block if changes if they will result in a regression of compliance.

The Benefits

A small Fresenius staff can now handle the compliance requirements for all Fresenius’ parts and products. Data collection is fully automated and manual processes are no longer a roadblock. The improved system is scalable no matter how Fresenius grows. In turn, Fresenius has been freed to perform higher level quality assessments and surveys.
