Zbee Urban Vehicle to Leverage Digital Twins, Micro Factories and IoT to Close the Life Cycle Loop
Under (Göran) Folkesson’s leadership, Zbee has started to manufacture based on a “micro-factory model.” They have established a global expansion strategy built around distributed local production in many smaller factories close to the end customers. This model requires efficient digitized manufacturing support. Folkesson recently revealed that the company is investing in a partnership with Siemens PLM that will span from product development and manufacturing to close the entire product life cycle loop by using the Siemens’ IoT solution, Mindsphere. It’s a tough challenge, but if successful it will be a cutting-edge example of a complete digital thread solution. "With Siemens’ solutions for digital twins (NX and Teamcenter), IoT and IIoT (Industrial IoT), we will record how the product is produced and used in real time," Folkesson commented…
Strategies, & Thoughts on PLM
Onshape Extends Cloud-Based CAD to the Enterprise, Part 2
Onshape’s competitors, (Dave) Corcoran, believes, “are doing more and more for less and less [of the user base] until they’re doing nothing for nobody.” They are too focused on very specialty or niche improvements that don’t benefit most users, or on changes that are detrimental because they introduce more complexity for PLM and PDM systems, he said. And because “effectively all other systems” are file-based, Corcoran pointed out, their ability to control data security is limited. “You can’t get it back once it’s out there,” he observed. Ultimately, comparing Onshape to its more traditional competitors may an apples-to-oranges proposition. “It is more economical than a lot of things that are tagged as CAD or PLM, but it’s really a new category,” said Corcoran. “You have real-time visualization into what’s going on during the design process, and security rules are what you want them to be…”
